There's a vaccine available that provides protection against a common virus called Human Papillomavirus or HPV. This virus can cause cervical cancer.
The HPV vaccine is offered free to Grade 4 girls in the NWT. A catch-up program will also be offered over the next 5 years for girls in grades 9-12.

It's not always easy for anyone to learn about sex in school and many of us have similar questions about sex and sexuality.
Lesbian, Gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) students have questions about sexuality that may not be covered in class, and they can't necessarily be answered by a trip to the library. Check out the section on Sexual Orientation on this website for more information & some great links.
Help us celebrate NWT Youth! Tell us about things happening in your community – is there a celebration you would like to share? Has there been a local video produced about HIV or STIs? Is there a speaker coming to talk to your school about youth issues? We would like to feature your stories and photos on our website.
